Community Centre

The late Tom Powderly is attributed with saying that St. Kevin’s was a social club that happened to have a football team. This is probably a good reflection for a small community without a traditional village centre but has secured its social needs in addition to its sports facilities by building a community hall/centre on several occasions; in 1913, again in 1975 and the new Centre in 2014.

Our aim has always been for the Centre was to cater for the social, recreational, educational, sport and leisure needs of all residents of the community. Our facilities include a full-sized sports hall and changing rooms with showers, meeting and community rooms and kitchen which has allowed us to provide many sports and leisure activities, parties and entertainment events.  We also have IT equipment and Wi-Fi making it an ideal venue for meetings or training courses. In keeping with our role as a centre for the community, all the facilities are available to local schools and community groups.

We’re delighted that many new activities are available here in Philipstown meaning residents no longer need travel to bigger towns to access diverse activities such as bingo, yoga, pilates, Irish dancing, music, gymnastics, karate, tennis, badminton, Ladies and Mother & Toddler groups, Men’s Shed and computer or crafts classes. We have so many activities you’re bound to find several reasons to visit the Centre to keep you fit, entertained or educated.
